A social riding weekend - Canberra in April

Parramatta Cycling Club is back on the road! After a successful debut in 2024, we're again having an
extended social weekend in Canberra. This is a fabulous opportunity to ride the many scenic paths
and roads there to see the sights and, and of course to catch up with friends. In 2024 we had 30
people, with 20 riding. We had some great rides (around the lake, out to Bungendore), and the non-
riders went sightseeing and met us on the way. In the evening we caught up in the nearby pubs,
clubs and restaurants. Half stayed till Monday for a relaxing café & embassy ride.
Dates:
Saturday 12 April to Monday 15 April.
We're flexible at both ends – most will arrive Friday evening, and if you have to go home for
Monday, that’s fine

In Canberra:
The weather will be cooling with the leaves starting to change colour. There can be fresh starts, but
the days will be pleasant. It’s a lovely time.

Rides:
We'll organise a selection to match our participants, which may include:
 The Lake Burley Griffin circuit
 Rides out to Belconnen, Gungahlin, Woden
 A “mountain stage” of Black Mountain and Mt Ainslie
 A longer road trip - to Tidbinbilla or Bungendore.

And more:
We're not just for riders. We welcome your families and friends, and we'll be handily based near
attractions like the National Gallery, Questacon, Parliament Houses (new and old) and the Old Bus
Depot Markets.  If you think you "might perhaps" be up for a very gentle roll, there's the shortest
lake circuit (7km), or a tour through the embassy district.
Accommodation:
We'll start our rides in Manuka/Kingston. This central area has great access to attractions and paths,
to local shops, and many food options including some pubs (where we’ll organise a gathering on
Saturday).

You book your own accommodation - prices and availability are pretty good, as at early Febuary.
Some suggested hotels (with indicative cost for a double room as per Booking.com) are:
(a) Between Manuka and Kingston (this is the ideal location - with several serviced apartment hotels
in this area)
 Oxley Court Serviced Apartments,  9 Dawes Street, Kingston. Around $250/night for a 1-bed
apartment, or $310/night for 2-bedroom apartment. Most will stay here.
(b) On the Manuka side (best for walking into Parliamentary Triangle)
 East Hotel, 69 Canberra Ave, Kingston, 2603 $260/night. New hotel, handy location.
 Forrest Hotel & Apartments, 30 National Circuit Forrest ACT 2603 $135/night. Smaller rooms
and older place, but very serviceable.
(c) Closer to Kingston (walkable to Kingston)
 Ramada Diplomat, Cnr Canberra Ave & Hely St, Griffith, 2603, $170 a night. A little further
out for a good price

Cost
There's no cost to participate. You pay your own expenses.
