Social Riding Weekend April 12 to April 15

08 Mar 2025

A social riding weekend - Canberra in April

Parramatta Cycling Club is back on the road! We are again having an extended social weekend in

Canberra, riding scenic paths and roads to see the sights and, and of course to catch up with friends.

We will do some great rides with opportunities to catch up in evenings.

Dates:

Saturday 12 April to Monday 15 April.

We are flexible - most will arrive Friday evening, and some will have to be home for Monday.

 In Canberra:

The weather will be cooling with the leaves starting to change colour. Mornings will be fresh, but the

days will be pleasant. It is a lovely time.

 Rides:

We will organise a selection to match our participants, which may include:

 The Lake Burley Griffin circuit, with optional side trips to Arboretum, Mount Ainslie

 Rides out to Belconnen, Gungahlin, Woden

 A longer road trip - to Tidbinbilla or Bungendore.

 And more:

We are not just for riders. We welcome families and friends, and will be handily based near

attractions like the National Gallery, Questacon, Parliament Houses (new and old) and the Old Bus

Depot Markets.  And for anyone looking for the gentlest of rides, there is the shortest lake circuit

(7km), or a tour through the embassy district.

Accommodation:

We start the rides in Kingston. This central area has great access to attractions and paths, to local

shops, and many food options including some pubs (where we will have a gathering on Saturday).

You book your own accommodation – be aware prices and availability are tight as at early March.

Some suggested hotels (with indicative cost for a double room as per Booking.com) are:

(a) Between Manuka and Kingston (this is the ideal location - with several serviced apartment

hotels in this area). Many are staying at Oxley Court Serviced Apartments, which is now full.

However, Adina & Manuka Park Serviced Apartments still have availability at $270/night

(b) On the Manuka side (best for walking into Parliamentary Triangle), the Rydges Canberra,

also around $270/night

(c) At Narrabundah (3km drive from Kingston), Ibis Styles and Best Western Garden City around

the $150/night mark.

 Cost

It is free to participate. You pay your own expenses.
