Training Rides

 

Merrylands oval Circuits  

 Mondays: Evening

 Location: Merrylands Oval, Burnetts Rd, Merrylands (Outdoor 400m, slightly banked, lights).

 Times: 5.00 pm to 6.00 pm for Youth of the Streets Program and 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm Parramatta Juniors.

 Program: Scratch, Handicap, Elimination, Derby, Points, Time Trial and anything else we may come up with.

 Conditions:

  • Rider’s to show current race licence upon sign-in
  • Australian Standards Helmet required.
  • Bike that is safe and serviceable.
  • Weather permitting.

Parramatta Park Circuits

 Tuesdays and Thursdays: Morning.

 The ride: You will find different groups cycling in the Park on these 2 days where you can join and leave at your leisure.

 Start time: Ranges between 6.00am and 6.30am

 Meet: At the top of the hill and pick up a group that suits your speed and ability

 Distance: The circuit is about 3km - so ride until you need to leave

 Average speed: Variable - remember that the Park has a speed limit of 30kph. Riders should be able to hold 30kph on flat terrain.

 Elevation / terrain: 25m / lap

 

 Dream Loop

Tuesdays and Thursdays: Morning.

The ride: Fast-paced ride along the railway to Schofields and Mulgrave, across to Pitt Town turf farms, back along ridge. Finishing at Rouse Hill shopping village for coffee.

Start time / approximate return: 6:30AM / 8:10AM

Meet: “The Cows”, Sunnyholt Rd, near Parklea Markets

Distance: 50km

Average speed: 30-35kph average - mostly riding pace of 35-40km/h.

Elevation / terrain: 300m / flat to undulating

Notes: Solid mid-week training ride, for the experienced rider. Surface is a bit variable.

 Universe Ride

Saturdays: Morning.

 The ride: This ride is a cycling institution in Western Sydney. We head west through Toongabbie, Kings Park, Lethbridge Park and Mount Druitt returning via the Great Western Highway. See details of each bunch below and select accordingly.

 Distance: 50km

 Approximate return: all bunches 8:10AM

 Elevation / terrain: 500m / flat to undulating

 Bunches

 Start Time: 6:10AM - Average speed 26kph to 28kph. (Moderate)

Meet: Officeworks North Parramatta, corner Church Street and James Ruse Drive

For a steadier “no-drop” pace, joining main group for coffee back at Parramatta.

This ride caters for riders who want to improve skills and comfort riding in a bunch and anyone who simply wants a moderately paced ride.

 Start time: 6.20am - Average speed 30kph to 32kph. (Intermediate) - (implemented during COVID-19 - check availability)

Meet: PETBARN 561 - 565 Church Street, North Parramatta opposite By Street.

This group will consist of fit riders who would normally form the second group on the Great Western Highway, Junior riders on restricted gearing and riders that are able to keep up on the highway but unable to take a turn in the fast group.

 Start time: 6:30AM - Average Speed 33 kph + (Fast)

Meet: PETBARN 561 - 565 Church Street, North Parramatta opposite By Street.

This group will consist of very fit riders that would normally form the fast group on the Great Western Highway. You should be able to take turns down the highway with this group and be experienced riding at pace in a fast bunch.

Regroup at Parra for a well-earned coffee.

  Galston and Bobbin Head

 Sundays: Morning - Option - Sunday rides change each week for variety - check Facebook each week

 The ride: This option takes in Baulkham Hills to Galston, through Galston Gorge, via Asquith to Bobbin Head, returning via Browns Waterhole and M2.

 Start time /approximate return: 6:40AM / 9:30AM 

 Meet: Windsor Rd, Baulkham Hills at the M2 overpass 

 Distance: about 65km

 Average speed: 27-30km/h. Take the climbs at your best pace, and regroup at the top

 Elevation / terrain: 1100m / Hilly with 2 climbs

 Notes: These 2 climbs are our staple Sunday breakfast. Usually coffee at North Turramurra. If you stop for coffee, add 30minutes.

 Berowra and Brooklyn

 Sundays: Morning - Option - Sunday rides change each week for variety - check Facebook each week

 The ride: This option takes in two gorges in the north. Baulkham Hills to Berowra Waters Ferry, up the east side, left on Pacific Highway to Brooklyn, then return via Hornsby.

 Start time /approximate return: 6:40AM / 10:30AM 

 Meet: Windsor Rd, Baulkham Hills at the M2 overpass 

 Distance: about 90km

 Average speed: 27-30km/h. Take the climbs at your best pace, and regroup at the top.

 Elevation / terrain: 1400m / Hilly with 2 climbs

 Notes: A longer Sunday outing. Coffee at Pie in the Sky, Hornsby or Castle Hill – it depends!

 Extra Sunday options: Berowra and Bobbin; Galston and Berowra; 3 Gorges loop; and wherever else the road may take us e.g. Windsor.

 Annual Easter Ride

 Good Friday: Morning

The ride: this is our annual Fondo style ride with various routes and distances so the whole Club can participate. We head to Windsor and Richmond depending which group you ride, then onto Rouse Hill Regional Park for a BBQ breakfast before returning home to Parramatta.

 Meet: Corner Windsor Rd and Briens Rd North Parramatta (Office Works car park).

 Start time /approximate return: 6:30AM /11:00AM

 Distance: 65km and 85km two bunches

 Average speed: 25kph and 30+kph average. 

 Elevation / terrain: 300m / flat to undulating

 Notes: This is a social ride for all club members and friends and includes a BBQ at Rouse Hill Regional Park. Free to members.
