Cycling NSW What's Coming Up

21 Dec 2016

It might be five more sleeps till Santa, but it’s only seven more sleeps until the Christmas Carnivals!   That’s right, the annual Crafty celebration of track cycling, summer and the end of year are ready to go.  The five day carnival will visit the iconic Sydney velodromes including the famed Dunc Gray Tuesday 27th, Tempe Wednesday 28th, Hurstville Thursday 29th, Lidcombe Friday 30th, and back to the Dunc to see the year out on Saturday 31st .  Remember racing is guaranteed regardless of weather, with DGV as the wet weather venue.

And for the Juniors, the Junior Christmas carnivals will be over the first four days

We’d encourage you to compete or drop down and watch any or all of the days, but the big one is the Tempe event of Wednesday 28th .  Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club are going in big, promoting the Night Racing Carnival at Tempe Velodrome with the goal of letting more people see what a thrilling sport this is. Race promoter and caller Paul “Crafty” Craft will be explaining the races and interviewing Olympic and Paralympic celebrities throughout the night. Racing includes the inaugural Marrick Café and Bar Wheel Race and two exciting madison events sponsored by Park Bikes. With the state’s best riders, top notch funk from 10 piece band Bump City, great Czech beer from Bakalar and food trucks, the Night Racing Carnival at Tempe Velodrome on Wednesday 28 December is going to be a blast.

Spectating at velodrome racing is going through a massive resurgence across Europe and DHBC are aiming for big numbers at the event to help renew the velodrome carnival culture in NSW.  If every member who is in Sydney brings family and friends who are interested in cycling we will be assured of that. It is just $10 if you book in advance through Eventbrite

The racing starts at 6pm. Get on down to Tempe Velodrome and bring your mates!

So after all that racing and partying, down to some more serious racing in the New Year.

Wishing you a safe and enjoyable Christmas and New Year!
